Northbank Chambers barristers regard providing legal assistance on a pro bono basis as an important aspect of the conduct of the practice of a barrister.
Northbank Chambers barristers provide pro bono legal assistance to clients through:
LawRight (formerly QPILCH)
Caxton Legal Centre
direct referral from the Federal Court and the Federal Circuit Court
Northbank Chambers barristers are also actively involved in the activities of the Bar Association of Queensland including through membership of various committees (including the ADR Committee, the South Pacific Region CLE Committee, the Professional Conduct Committee and the Migration Law Committee), by assisting in the delivery of the Bar Practice Course and by giving CPD papers.
Since 2013 a contingent of Queensland barristers (usually about 10) has travelled to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, to conduct a week long Commercial Litigation Workshop at the Legal Training Institute (the pre-admission Papua New Guinea post-graduation training course). Northbank Chambers barristers have been part of that contingent each year and this participation will continue into the future.
